Crowns
What are Dental Crowns?
A crown is a porcelain jacket that is placed over the natural tooth to create a more aesthetically pleasing result; it is also used to enhance strength and durability. When a tooth is cracked, has an old filling, or is severely decayed, the placement of a crown is often recommended. When fitting you with a crown the prescribing dentist, after consultation with yourself, can specify the shape, length, width and colour of each specific tooth. This enables us to create the smile you want.
The Dental Crown Procedure
Before placing the crown on the tooth, your dentist will file the natural tooth down to make room for it. Then an impression of the tooth and the surrounding teeth is taken. A temporary acrylic crown is placed on the tooth. When the permanent crown or veneer is ready (1-2 weeks normally), the temporary crowns are replaced. A crown may last up to 40 years. Please note - we do several types of crowns including: CAPTEK, LAVA, PFG, FGC, PROCERA, but your dentist will advise which type is most suitable for you.
